What You Will Learn
Basics: seat position, mirror adjustments, right and left turns, hand over hand steering, reversing, smooth braking and acceleration.
Driving with your eyes: looking well ahead, observing signs and traffic lights, scanning intersections, checking wheel movements of other vehicles, shoulder checking for safe lane changes and turns, preparing for potential hazards.
Space cushion: safe following distances, safe stopping distance, adjusting to being tailgated or cut off.
3 and 4 way stops: right of way, communication, patience.
Large and busy Intersections: right and left turns, correct waiting positions, avoiding distraction, staying focused, expect the unexpected.
Highway driving: adjusting to speed, lane changes, safe passing, hwy merge.
Downtown driving: one way streets, pedestrians, congestion, scanning under and through parked cars, covering the brake.
Parking skills: parallel park, hill park, forward and reverse stall park.
Other: roundabouts, two and three point turns, school zones, playgrounds.
Night driving (when applicable): proper use of headlights and high beams.
Winter driving (seasonal only): steering, braking and accelerating in slippery conditions, skid control.
